STEVEN ATWATER is a choreographer based in Los Angeles. He is the founding director of companyONE, a pre-professional training program whose students have been accepted to BFA/dance programs at Ailey/Fordham, SUNY Purchase, Marymount Manhattan College and PACE University, and summer programs at The Rock School and American Ballet Theatre. Others have gone on to perform in theater productions across the United States and with major recording artists, including Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. His choreographic work has been presented by Next@Graham (a Martha Graham Dance Company choreography series), Capezio A.C.E. Awards, Peridance APEX Showcase and STEPS NYC Performance Lab.
His work has appeared at such theaters as the legendary Kaye Playhouse, Ailey Citigroup Theater, KnJ Theater and the Boulton Center.

In the pre-professional space, his choreography and students have won overall high score group and solo awards at the most prestigious competitive events, including The Dance Awards and New York City Dance Alliance. He has twice won the award for Best Choreography at The Dance Awards, where his students have also been named Best Dancer and Best Dancer runners-up in multiple age divisions.
Since 2016, he has collaborated with artistic partner Thomas Ford on several projects. Using original sound scores, technology spanning mediated forms and emergent movement vocabularies inspired by historically ostracized bodies and sci-fi folklore, they build worlds, where the expressions of their identities amplify the social, cultural and political. Their latest commision, In Search of an Exit, is an evening-length work that will premiere at Sierra Madre Playhouse in Los Angeles. Outside of his choreographic practice, Steven has served as a casting assistant with Broadway casting director Stuart Howard.

Steven earned a B.A. in theater with a minor in communications studies from Hunter College in New York City. Currently, he tours nationally as a choreographer, master teacher and judge.
